revered Persian poet. He is the author of the Shahnameh, the national
epic of Iran and the Persian-speaking world. Wikipedia
This is a poem about the kings of ancient Persia. Ferdowsi wrote it around 1020 Ad ad Sultan Mahmood Ghaznavi's request, who promised to pay a gold coin for each couplet. The Shahnama is an epic, or a very long poem about heroic deeds, and contains several volumes. One of the most famous characters of this epic is Rustum, who was a great warrior of Persia. He had a Son, Sohrab, whom he had never seen, nor had Sohrab seen him. They fought a battle for the opposite armies and by mistake Rustum killed Sohrab. The father only recognized his son when the dying young man told him, " You will not live. My father Rustum will take my revenge!".
